Our EUSEW 2022 Speakers

In the EU, over 100 million people, mostly vulnerable, cannot keep their homes comfortably cool in summer. Hence more attention is needed to the issue of summertime energy poverty (SEP), in research and in policy-making.

The event “Summer energy poverty: thinking outside of the box” will take place within the EUSEW extended programme on the 19th of September, 2022, 15:00-16:30h CET.

We are continuing to introduce you shortly our speakers and the topics we shall address during the session. Today we are going to introduce you Mrs. Marina Varvesi. She graduated Chemistry at the University of Rome. She started working on aspects related to the quality of life, slowly moving to the energy sector with focus on domestic energy consumption and consumption habits. In the last 10 years she has been working on the social problem of energy poverty – testing models to address citizens to better advice and support them. She coordinated the H2020 ASSIST project and today is involved in different European projects on energy poverty, including the European initiative EPAH – Energy Poverty Advisory Hub

In 2022 she founded the non-profit association RETE ASSIST, with the aim to consolidate and scale the work started with the ASSIST project to create a National network of stakeholders dealing with energy poverty, both HEAs (Household Energy Advisors, i.e specifically trained operators on energy poverty)

Mrs. Varvesi will present the topic “RETE ASSIST: Policy recommendations on tackling Energy Poverty: the results of the ASSIST project’ HEA- centric ASSIST model”.
