CoolToRise coordinator, Carmen Sánchez Guevara, was invited to participate in the EIB Adaptation Days in Luxembourg, hosted by the European Investment Bank.

During April 24th and 25th, 2024, the Adaptation Days event took place, organized by the European Investment Bank, to which Carmen Sánchez-Guevara, the CoolToRise project director, was invited as a speaker. This event was organized in response to the growing impact of global warming and the urgent need for proactive adaptation measures, their integration into planning, financing, and implementation processes.

The event aimed to bring together a wide range of stakeholders in the sector to delve into relevant experiences and best practices. In this way, the EIB reaffirms its commitment to increased financing and the provision of advisory services dedicated to climate change adaptation. Lecturer Carmen Sánchez-Guevara participated in the roundtable discussion on the socio-economic aspects of climate change adaptation, presenting the latest results of work on population heat vulnerability and the necessary adaptation of housing and urban environments to high temperatures.

Alongside her, the roundtable included: Gisli Olafsson, member of the Icelandic Parliament; Shona Whitton, technical advisor in mental health and psychosocial support at the Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and Christian Clot, director of ADAPTATION. The discussion was moderated by Edina Csanyi, senior social officer at the EIB Institute and initiator of Know Your Hazard, a community and movement for disaster preparedness and resilience.

This Adaptation Days initiative was designed as the first in a series of recurring events to promote the exchange of knowledge and the latest approaches in the bank’s climate adaptation practice. This conference provided a unique opportunity to interact with professionals from the public and private sectors, including officials from finance and environment ministries, corporate representatives of network operators, public concession providers, and financial and insurance sectors, to share their experiences in addressing the impacts of climate change and their future actions.
