The Cooltorise project was presented at the European Sustainable Energy Week 2023 during a separate policy session dedicated to gender perspective issues related to summer energy poverty. The name of the session was “Empowering women to become active stakeholders in tackling summertime energy poverty”.
This particular event was visited by 82 stakeholders from all over Europe. Our project coordinator and manager, Dr. Carmen Sanchez Guevara, PhD, from the Technical University of Madrid presented Cooltorise project at the policy session. The accent was on gender perspective, and larger inclusion of women, especially single parent mothers, in fighting summer energy poverty, and building a sustainable energy culture. Good examples have been given on feminization of energy poverty from the city of Madrid, Spain. During our session, there was feedback by a vulnerable citizen from Barcelona, Mrs. Mari Carmen Gomez, who shared interesting experience on how to fight with the difficulties to meet summer energy bills and escape from debts.
Dr. Carmen Guevara shared also the activities that have been presented over the last year of the project, with workshops such as Cooltorise Coolkits, outdoor interventions and targeted workshops with groups of vulnerable people like low-income citizens, elderly people, single parent families (in this case most of them are women). Useful tips and recommendations were given on how to involve vulnerable citizens in processes to tackle summer energy poverty.
